national nanny recognition week

National Nanny Recognition Week is 20–26 September 2026.

Every day, nannies show up for the families they work with. They care for children, keep routines moving, plan activities, navigate big feelings and become an important part of family life.

National Nanny Recognition Week (NNRW)  is a chance to pause and recognise all of that.

If you’re wondering how to thank your nanny, it doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive. The most meaningful gestures are often the ones that show that you’ve noticed the work they do and appreciate the difference they make to your family.

Here are a few simple ways to recognise your nanny for NNRW and beyond.

1. Write a thoughtful card

A handwritten note is a simple way to let your nanny know you appreciate them.

Instead of just saying “thank you”, think about the things you particularly value about their work. Maybe it’s the patience they show on challenging days, the activities they come up with, or the way they always seem to know what your child needs.

Tell them what you’ve noticed.

A few genuine words about the difference they make can mean more than you might think, and is a perfect way to thank your nanny.

2. Get the kids involved

Let the kids have their own way of saying thank you.

A handmade card, drawing, painting or photo can make a lovely gift for NNRW. Ask the kids what they love about their nanny and help them turn their answer into something they can gift.

You could even ask them to finish the sentence:

“I love my nanny because…”

It doesn’t need to be perfect. That’s part of what makes it special.

3. Give a small, thoughtful gift

If you’d like to give your nanny a gift, think about what they would actually enjoy.

It could be their favourite coffee, some treats, a small plant, a book, a gift card or a small basket filled with things they’ll love. If you’re not sure what to get, think about something they’ve mentioned recently or ask your children what they think their nanny would like. It’s the thought behind the gift that matters most.

4. Give them some time back

One of the most valuable ways to show your appreciation might be to give your nanny some extra time for themselves.

If it works for your family and your nanny, you could offer an early finish, an additional paid day off or some extra paid time away from work.

They might use it to catch up with friends, spend time with family, get a few things done or simply put their feet up.

Whatever they choose to do, giving them some time back can be a meaningful way to recognise everything they do for your family.

If you’re offering additional paid time off, make sure you’re clear about the arrangement and payment so everyone knows what to expect.

Recognition goes beyond National Nanny Recognition Week

NNRW gives families a reason to stop and say thank you, but appreciation doesn’t have to end on 26 September.

When you thank your nanny at the end of the day, recognise a job well done or let your nanny know that you noticed something they did, that can make a difference all year round.

And recognising your nanny also means making sure they are treated fairly and paid correctly for the work they do.

Nannying is skilled, meaningful work. The care, responsibility and expertise nannies bring to their roles deserve to be valued and respected, not just during National Nanny Recognition Week, but every day.
